Jacob Cohen, LMSW

Jacob (he/him) is an LMSW who believes that healing begins with feeling seen, understood, and supported exactly as you are. With a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and a background across clinical, school-based, and private practice settings, Jacob brings a gentle, steady presence to individuals and families navigating emotional, relational, and developmental challenges.

He began his clinical work at the Metropolitan Center for Communication, supporting individuals recovering from stroke, autism, and aphasia, and helping families adjust to profound communication and daily-life changes. At The James Baldwin School, he worked closely with students and parents through academic stress, emotional regulation, family conflict, and crisis situations. In private practice, Jacob has supported both individuals and families through addiction, complex relational dynamics, identity exploration, and the unique experiences within LGBTQIA+ communities.

Before becoming a therapist, Jacob worked in corporate America, including at Universal Music Group. Witnessing how little meaningful emotional support many people receive in high-pressure environments inspired him to pursue a path centered on connection, advocacy, and accessible mental health care.

Jacob’s therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the understanding that healing is rarely linear. He integrates Schema Therapy, DBT, CBT, family systems work, and Kristin Linklater’s Freeing the Natural Voice to help clients recognize unhelpful patterns, reconnect with their inner voice, and create space for meaningful change. He leads with curiosity and compassion while offering honest, direct guidance when needed.

As a parent coach, Jacob serves as a supportive liaison between families, schools, and providers. His experience across educational and clinical settings shapes his belief that parents are clients too—and he is dedicated to strengthening communication and helping families navigate care with clarity and confidence.

Outside the therapy room, Jacob loves theatre, music, fitness, cooking, and traveling. He brings openness, steadiness, and a deep appreciation for intersectionality to every client relationship—meeting each person where they are and honoring every part of their story.
