Lizz Atwood

Lizz (she/her) is a school counselor and Certified Wellness Coach with a Master of Arts in Student Counseling, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, and Child Welfare Authorization. Her path to supporting young people began in outdoor education, where she spent five years working closely with students navigating homesickness, behavioral challenges, and time away from home. She later worked in special education before becoming a school counselor, where she now supports students through anxiety, self-advocacy, anger management, and other difficult moments.

Lizz’s own experiences as a pre-teen and teenager shaped the kind of support she strives to offer today. Remembering what it felt like to want someone who would simply listen and take her concerns seriously inspired her to become that steady presence for other young people. She brings patience, genuine curiosity, and consistency to her relationships with clients, creating space for them to talk about what matters to them without feeling dismissed or rushed.

Her approach incorporates solution-focused counseling, mindfulness practices, and elements of play therapy, while remaining flexible to each client’s interests and needs. Years spent in schools and outdoor education have made Lizz especially skilled at building rapport quickly and finding creative ways to connect. She enjoys incorporating activities and nontraditional approaches into her work when they help a young person feel more comfortable, engaged, or understood.

Lizz has particular experience supporting young people with anxiety and depression, including panic attacks, persistent worries, and anxious thought patterns. She is also passionate about working with neurodivergent children and teens and values the individuality, perspective, and strengths each client brings to the relationship.

What drew Lizz to Wonder is the opportunity to support young people beyond the limits of short-term, school-based counseling. She values Wonder’s whole-family approach and the ability to build lasting relationships with clients while supporting the larger systems around them.

Outside of work, Lizz spends as much time as she can with her 8-year-old husky, attends Golden State Valkyries games throughout the summer and early fall, and loves playing—and discovering—new board games.
