Nat Shogren, BA, PhD Candidate
Nat is a dedicated clinician and PhD candidate at Suffolk University with a strong background in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for adolescents and young adults. With two years of experience in a residential DBT program, he worked closely with adolescents struggling with emotion regulation, suicidal ideation, and interpersonal challenges, providing both individual support and skills-based group therapy. He later led a remote DBT/CBT skills acquisition group for adolescents and young adults with mood disorders, focusing on psychoeducation and practical skill-building.
His passion for working with adolescents stems from his lived experience with ADHD and anxiety, as well as witnessing loved ones struggle with mental health challenges. This led him to pursue clinical training, where he developed a deep appreciation for fostering meaningful, trusting relationships with clients. While his background is rooted in DBT and CBT, he is eager to expand his expertise in family systems therapy, recognizing the profound impact of familial dynamics on adolescent well-being.
Nat takes a person-centered approach, believing that meaningful change occurs when both provider and client build a foundation of acceptance and mutual respect. He is particularly interested in supporting transgender and gender-nonconforming youth, as well as exploring how masculinity influences emotional expression and suppression. His PhD research focuses on family treatment, reinforcing his commitment to working with both adolescents and their parents.
Outside of his clinical work, Nat enjoys hiking, biking, and rock climbing, often exploring the White Mountains or reading fantasy novels in his hammock. He is the proud owner of seven plants and hopes to adopt a cat soon. Passionate about building strong connections with the individuals he works with, Nat is always open to feedback and continuously seeks to grow as a clinician.
