Shaniqua Person, Ed.D
Shaniqua is passionate about helping children, adolescents, young adults, and families build resilience, strengthen relationships, and navigate life's challenges with confidence. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in School Counseling, and a Doctoral degree in Community Counseling. She also holds a Pupil Personnel License (PPL) and is currently working toward obtaining her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential.
Over the past decade, Shaniqua has worked in both education and mental health, supporting individuals across a wide range of developmental stages. As both an elementary and secondary school counselor, she has partnered closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community providers to promote academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success. Alongside her work in schools, she has spent the past 10 years providing mental health support to teenagers, young adults, and their families, helping them navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation, and family conflict.
Shaniqua's interest in mental health began with a lifelong curiosity about human behavior and a desire to better understand how experiences shape the way people think, feel, and grow. That curiosity evolved into a calling to help others through difficult seasons, empower them with practical tools, and celebrate their strengths along the way.
Her therapeutic approach is client-centered, collaborative, and strengths-based. She primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), while also incorporating family systems principles, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices. She believes every individual and family possesses unique strengths, and she works alongside clients to build resilience, improve communication, develop healthy coping strategies, and create lasting, meaningful change.
Known for her warm, authentic presence, Shaniqua strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. She especially enjoys supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate identity development, relationships, academic and career decisions, and the transition into adulthood, while partnering with parents to strengthen family relationships and foster positive change at home.
Outside of her professional work, Shaniqua enjoys traveling, attending concerts, hiking, working out, reading, and journaling. She is deeply family-oriented and loves spending time with her loved ones—including her beloved dog, who proudly considers himself part human.
